Eldorado Community Unit School District #4 is excited to announce that construction has officially begun on a new hydroponic greenhouse and headhouse facility at Eldorado High School. The project is scheduled to be completed in early spring 2027.
The project is an important part of the EHS Vision 2030 and its commitment to providing students with rigorous, relevant, and hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for college, careers, and life.
The new facility will allow students to participate in every stage of the growing and business process, including planting, maintaining crops, harvesting, packaging, pricing, marketing, sales, delivery, and inventory management. Students will gain practical experience in agriculture, science, technology, business, entrepreneurship, and food production while developing valuable workplace skills.
Fresh fruits and vegetables grown by students will be used in cafeterias throughout Eldorado CUSD #4, helping provide nutritious, locally grown food to students across the district. As the program develops, the district also plans to explore opportunities to sell produce to local businesses and organizations, creating additional economic and workforce development opportunities.
“This project will bring student learning to life,” said Superintendent and High School Principal Cody Cusic. “Our students will not only learn how to grow fresh produce, but they will also gain experience operating a real-world agricultural business. They will develop skills that can lead to future careers, entrepreneurship, and continued economic growth in our community.”
The district extends its appreciation to Dodd Architects for helping transform the project from an initial vision into a thoughtful and innovative facility design.
The project is being funded primarily through the Eldorado Impact Fund, powered by Sol Systems. Eldorado CUSD #4 is deeply grateful for Sol Systems’ continued investment in the Eldorado community and, most importantly, in the future of its schools and students.
“This investment will have an impact far beyond the walls of the greenhouse,” Cusic added. “It will provide fresh food, meaningful learning experiences, paid employment opportunities, and a stronger connection between our schools, local agriculture, and the regional economy.”
The Eldorado FFA will host its annual Farm-to-Table event powered by Sol Systems on Friday, September 11, 2026. A portion of the event proceeds will help support the new hydroponic greenhouse project and fund FFA activities throughout the school year.
Community members are invited to attend, learn more about the greenhouse project, enjoy a locally inspired meal, and spend a fun-filled evening supporting Eldorado students and agricultural education.
