Eldorado Community Unit School District #4 has approved several operational changes for the upcoming school year. These updates are intended to improve student safety, strengthen the transition between grade levels, and provide students with the support they need to be successful.
High School Athletic Fan Policy Updates
Eldorado High School will implement an updated attendance policy for home football and basketball games. Students who are not yet in high school must attend with a parent, guardian, or responsible adult. Adults attending with children will be expected to remain present and provide appropriate supervision throughout the event.
This change is designed to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for students, families, staff, and community members. We want athletic events to remain a positive opportunity to support our students, show Eagle pride, and enjoy time together as a community.
Middle School Eighth Grade Promotion and Recognition
Eldorado Middle School will also make changes to the way eighth-grade students are recognized at the end of the school year. Beginning this year, the school will hold an Eighth Grade Promotion and Honors Ceremony rather than a formal graduation ceremony.
The district understands that end-of-year traditions are meaningful to students and families. Eighth-grade students will continue to be recognized and celebrated for their academic accomplishments, personal growth, attendance, leadership, and participation in school activities. The promotion and honors ceremony will provide families with an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone while recognizing that students are continuing their educational journey into high school.
Eighth-grade students will also remain in school longer at the end of the year. This additional instructional time will be used to provide continued academic support and expand activities designed to prepare students for the expectations of high school. Students will participate in lessons and transition activities focused on high school schedules, academic expectations, attendance, study habits, extracurricular opportunities, and other skills that will help them begin ninth grade with confidence.
Eldorado CUSD #4 remains committed to creating safe schools, recognizing student achievement, and helping every student make a successful transition from one stage of their education to the next.
Elementary School Report Card Update
Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Eldorado Elementary School will introduce a new report card format for first-grade students.
Similar to the report cards students received in kindergarten, first grade will transition from traditional letter grades to a standards-based grading system. This approach provides families with a clearer understanding of how well students are progressing toward specific grade-level learning standards.
Rather than combining student performance into a single overall grade, standards-based grading gives teachers the opportunity to provide more detailed feedback about a student’s strengths, areas of growth, and individual learning needs. This information will help strengthen communication between teachers and families and allow us to better support each student’s academic progress.
This change marks the first step in a multi-year transition. Standards-based grading will expand to second grade during the 2027–2028 school year.
We understand that a new report card format may take some time to become familiar. Eldorado Elementary School will provide families with additional information and guidance throughout the school year to help everyone better understand the new system.
