At its March 19 meeting, the Eldorado CUSD 4 Board of Education voted to abate $100,000 in sales tax revenue back to property taxpayers within the district.
The decision comes as district sales tax revenues have exceeded projections and planned summer projects are coming in within budget. After reviewing the district’s financial position, the Board determined it was appropriate to return a portion of those funds to local taxpayers.
Board President Bryce Hampton shared, “Our Board takes its responsibility to taxpayers seriously. When revenues come in stronger than expected and our projects stay on budget, it’s important that we evaluate how those funds are used. This abatement reflects our commitment to responsible oversight and thoughtful decision making on behalf of our community.”
Superintendent Cody Cusic added, “This abatement reflects our continued effort to be strong stewards of taxpayer dollars. We have worked intentionally to prioritize needs, monitor spending closely, and operate with transparency. When we are in a position to provide relief, even in a modest way, we believe it is the right thing to do.”
The District has passed a resolution to lower its property tax receipts by $100,000. It is important to clarify that this does not necessarily mean individual property tax bills will decrease, as the school district controls only its portion of a taxpayer’s overall bill. What this action does mean is that Eldorado Unit #4 School District will receive $100,000 less in property tax revenue than it otherwise would have collected, providing a small measure of relief to district taxpayers.
Eldorado CUSD 4 continues to pursue grant opportunities and innovative funding models to help offset costs to local taxpayers. The Board of Education remains committed to maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in Saline County while continuing to provide a high-quality education for students. The Board continues to make it a priority to balance fiscal responsibility with strong educational opportunities for all students.
